A national conference on Earth Science and Environmental Protection held at Lucknow University highlighted the growing importance of marine resources in generating employment and strengthening the economy through sustainable management.

Speaking at the conference, noted marine scientist Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh said that oceans are not only vast reservoirs of water but also rich sources of valuable minerals and biological resources. Proper management and scientific utilization of these resources can significantly boost the country’s economy while creating new employment opportunities.

Blue Economy and Sustainable Growth

Prof. Singh emphasized that under the concept of the Blue Economy, resources such as minerals, metals, energy reserves, and marine biodiversity must be utilized responsibly. Sustainable extraction and advanced processing technologies can open new avenues for industries and jobs while ensuring environmental protection.

He also pointed out that India still lacks advanced processing technologies for many marine resources. Strengthening research and technological capabilities in this sector will be crucial for maximizing economic benefits.

Conference Brings Together Scientists and Researchers

The two-day national conference brought together scientists, academicians, and researchers from 29 universities and around 20 national research institutions. Participants presented research papers and discussed key scientific challenges related to ocean exploration, environmental sustainability, and mineral resources.

Several expert lectures were delivered during the inaugural sessions, while more than 200 researchers presented their findings on various topics including ocean mining, mineral exploration, and climate-related environmental changes.

Maintaining Earth’s Balance is a Shared Responsibility

Head of the Department of Geology at Lucknow University, Dhruvsen Singh said that Earth is a unique living planet and protecting its environmental balance is everyone’s responsibility.

The inaugural session was chaired by Arvind Mohan and attended by experts including Harnish Gupta (Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology), N. Janardhan Raju (Jawaharlal Nehru University), Prabhat Pandey (Banaras Hindu University), Pankaj Srivastava (University of Delhi), Jeetendra Kumar Singh (University of Allahabad), Abhay Kumar Singh (Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research) and Raj Kumar Singh (Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar).

The conference provided a platform for researchers to discuss sustainable resource management and environmental protection in Earth sciences.
