A massive protest led by the student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) erupted at University of Lucknow on Tuesday over alleged irregularities in the evaluation of law examinations. The demonstration, which saw participation from hundreds of students and activists, intensified pressure on the university administration, eventually prompting officials to assure action on key demands raised by the students.
The protesting students alleged serious discrepancies in first-semester law examination results, claiming that evaluation errors had adversely affected the academic future of several students. Amid slogans and demonstrations inside the university campus, an ABVP delegation submitted a memorandum to Examination Controller Dr. Vidyanand Tripathi demanding immediate corrective measures.
According to student leaders, the administration has agreed “in principle” to consider the major demands, including scrutiny of disputed results, re-evaluation of answer sheets by experienced faculty members, and restoration of the earlier 70:30 assessment pattern.
Demand for transparent evaluation system
Speaking during the protest, ABVP Prant Mantri Arpan Kushwaha said the issue was not merely administrative negligence but a matter directly impacting the careers of thousands of law students.
He stated that irregularities in the evaluation process of a professional course like law could not be ignored and demanded reforms in the university’s assessment system on the lines of National Law Universities (NLUs) and other reputed institutions. He also warned that the student body would continue monitoring the university’s actions until affected students received justice.
ABVP Lucknow Mahangar Mantri Sarita Pandey stressed that correcting discrepancies in first-semester marks remained the organisation’s top priority. She demanded fair re-evaluation of copies by senior professors and urged the university to postpone second-semester examination form deadlines until the errors in results were completely rectified.
Heavy student participation in campus demonstration
The protest witnessed the presence of several prominent ABVP office-bearers and student representatives. Among those leading the agitation were Vibhag Sangthan Mantri Pushpendra Bajpai, Sangthan Mantri Abhishek Bajpai, Jila Sanyojak Abhishek Singh, Lucknow University unit president Ashutosh Srivastava, Ikayi Mantri Aryan Kushwaha, vice-president Aryan Sharma, Sah Mantri Soumya Shukla and Divyansh Awasthi.
Representatives from affiliated colleges also joined the agitation, including KKC unit secretary Yash Srivastava and City Law College unit secretary Jugul Kishore Pandey. Activists such as Abhinav Mishra, Aryan Tomar, Siddharth Tiwari and Anil Tiwari were also actively involved in the protest.
The large turnout of students from the law faculty turned the demonstration into one of the most significant student movements witnessed on campus in recent months. Protesters maintained that if concrete action is not taken soon, the agitation could intensify further in the coming days.
