Campus Times | Lucknow The cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination by the National Testing Agency (NTA) has triggered disappointment, frustration and emotional reactions among lakhs of medical aspirants across India. The decision came days after allegations of a major paper leak in Rajasthan, prompting authorities to order a fresh examination and initiate a detailed investigation into the matter.Reacting to the development, Manish Singh, Director of SKD Group of Education, called the situation “deeply unfortunate” for students who had prepared for the examination with dedication and hard work over several months.“Millions of students worked tirelessly for this examination. Organized by the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, the demonstration saw hundreds of students gathering outside Gate No. 1 near the DSW office, voicing strong opposition to the administration’s decision. The protest continued for nearly four hours, after which student representatives submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor. Prince Kumar stated that as a government institution, the university plays a crucial role in shaping the future of students from marginalized communities, and the fee hike could jeopardize educational opportunities for many.Key Demands Put ForwardStudents presented two major demands to the administration:- Admissions for the 2026–27 session should be conducted under the existing 2025–26 semester fee structure without any revision.- All legal cases and disciplinary actions taken against students protesting the fee hike in recent days should be withdrawn immediately. The student body has given the administration a six-day deadline to address these demands, warning of a nationwide agitation if their concerns are not resolved.Situation Remains TenseMembers of the proctorial board attempted to calm the protesters, but the situation intensified,

NCERT Unveils ‘Madhurima’: A Creative Leap in Art Education for Class 9 Students

Abhishek Singh | 28 April 2026

Campus Times | Lucknow The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced a fresh and dynamic art education textbook, ‘Madhurima’, for Class 9 students—marking a significant shift toward experiential and student-driven learning. The book is designed to go beyond traditional theory, encouraging students to explore, interpret, and create art while connecting deeply with both Indian and global cultural traditions. At its core, Madhurima brings together India’s rich artistic legacy with international influences, helping students understand how art transcends boundaries. A key highlight is its focus on the diverse adaptations of the Ramayana across Southeast Asia, offering learners a broader cultural perspective while inspiring them to develop their own creative performances.Bridging Heritage with Hands-On LearningThe textbook features iconic historical and artistic landmarks such as Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, Sanchi Stupa, Natyashastra, and Ajanta Caves. Through these, students are introduced to the evolution of Indian art forms, from prehistoric cave paintings to classical performance theory. What sets Madhurima apart is its practical approach. Instead of limiting learning to textbooks, it actively engages students in four major art disciplines—visual arts, music, dance, and theatre. Learners are encouraged to experiment, collaborate, and express themselves creatively through projects and performances. One of the most innovative aspects of the curriculum is its emphasis on storytelling through performance. By studying various global interpretations of the Ramayana, students will not only analyze cultural differences but also create and stage their own versions. This approach nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork.Overall, Madhurima reimagines art education as a lived experience rather than just an academic subject—aiming to make classrooms more vibrant, inclusive, and inspiring for the next generation of learners.

Abhishek Singh | 24 April 2026

Campus Times | Lucknow In a significant move aimed at expanding access to education, the Uttar Pradesh government has extended correspondence (distance) education facilities to students of Classes 9 and 10. Until now, this option was available only to Intermediate-level students.According to an order issued by the Director of Secondary Education, Mahendra Dev, registrations for the upcoming academic session will begin shortly under the revised system.Expansion of Correspondence Education SystemThe Correspondence Education Institute in Prayagraj, established in 1980 under a government directive, was originally set up to support candidates appearing as private students in the High School and Intermediate examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education. The institute ensures that private candidates register formally and follow a prescribed curriculum designed for board examinations.Over the years, the number of such students has steadily increased, prompting the government to expand the scheme further. The inclusion of Classes 9 and 10 is expected to benefit a large number of students who are unable to attend regular school but wish to continue their education and appear in board examinations.Education department officials have instructed all Divisional Joint Directors of Education and District School Inspectors to ensure proper implementation of the new directive. Detailed guidelines regarding the registration process will be issued separately in due course. This step is being seen as a student-centric reform that strengthens inclusive education and provides flexible learning opportunities to school dropouts and non-traditional learners across the state.

Under the Pink Budget 2026-27, the state is focusing on entrepreneurship, safety, and self-reliance, in line with the Union Budget 2026-27’s vision to boost women-led businesses and increase women’s participation in India’s economy. What is SHE-Mart ?One of the most exciting initiatives is SHE-Mart (Self-Help Entrepreneur Mart). Think of it as a hub where women become business owners, selling their products directly to customers instead of relying on loans. SHE-Marts build on the popular Lakhpati Didi program, which helped women learn practical skills like plumbing, making LED bulbs, and even using drones—helping them earn a steady ₹1 lakh per year. What makes SHE-Marts special is their three-level support system—markets, capital, and networks. This means women can grow their businesses, access funding, and connect with other entrepreneurs, taking their enterprises to the next level. By linking women’s groups to both agricultural and non-agricultural markets, the initiative boosts rural economies while making women financially independent. It’s not just about business. Mission Shakti, UP’s flagship women’s safety program, is in its 5.0 phase (launched 2025), focusing on self-defense, legal awareness, dignity, and economic participation. Hallyu Hits India: Korean Culture is Shaping the Lives of Indian Teens

Abhishek Singh | 7 February 2026

Campus Times|LucknowWelcome to the era of Hallyu, where a handful of Korean words are universally recognised and the line between admiration and obsession is increasingly blurred. K-pop schooled the world in razor-sharp choreography, K-dramas trained it to weep on schedule, and K-beauty convinced it that visible pores are a personal flaw. What passes as a playful embrace of Korean culture, however, often comes with fine print—subtle, seductive, and rarely questioned. In recent years, Korean pop culture, known as the “K-wave”, has made a profound impact on teenagers in India. From K-dramas and K-pop music to fashion trends and language learning, teens are increasingly integrating elements of Korean culture into their daily lives. Why Teens Are Drawn to Korean CultureIdentity and Self-Expression: Many adolescents use K-pop and K-drama fandoms to explore their personalities, experiment with fashion, and connect with like-minded peers.Digital Immersion: Social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and short-video apps provide endless access to Korean content, allowing teens to engage with communities that share similar interests.Escapism and Entertainment: Immersive storylines, relatable characters, and visually appealing music videos offer a form of emotional escape from academic pressure or daily stress. The Role of Online Games and MediaAlongside music and shows, Korean-themed online games and interactive content are gaining popularity among school-going students. These digital experiences often encourage teamwork, creativity, and social interaction but can sometimes lead to excessive screen time if not balanced with offline activities.Experts Advise BalancePsychologists and educators caution that while cultural engagement can be enriching, too much immersion—especially in gaming or social media—can increase stress, isolation, or emotional dependency. Parents are encouraged to set healthy boundaries, communicate openly, and support their teens in balancing online and offline life.Real-Life ImplicationsThe influence of Korean culture has reached a point where it shapes daily routines, fashion choices, and even social interactions of Indian teens.
