In a major move aimed at tightening oversight on private school fee structures, the Lucknow district administration has initiated action against eight schools after complaints of alleged violations of the Uttar Pradesh Self-Financed Independent Schools (Fee Regulation) Act were found to be valid during an official inquiry.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the District Fee Regulatory Committee chaired by Lucknow District Magistrate Vishakh G. Following the committee’s findings, the DM directed officials to issue notices to the schools asking why a penalty of ₹5 lakh should not be imposed for violating provisions of the fee regulation law. The institutions have been given time until June 1, 2026, to submit their responses.
Complaints against 20 schools examined
According to the committee’s report presented during the meeting, a total of 28 complaints had been received against 20 schools across the district. After scrutiny and investigation under Section 8 of the Act, eight complaints were found to be genuine.
In two of these cases, the schools reportedly acknowledged discrepancies and assured the administration that the excess fee increase would be adjusted in the coming month.
The administration maintained that arbitrary fee hikes and non-compliance with statutory provisions would not be tolerated and strict action would follow wherever violations are confirmed.
