In a significant development for school education in Lucknow, Aminabad Inter College has begun admitting girl students for the first time in its 139-year history. The admission process for the new academic session is currently underway, with girls now eligible to enroll alongside boys in classes 6 to 12.

The college, operated by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, has a total capacity of around 1,200 students. At present, nearly 1,000 students are enrolled, leaving approximately 200 seats available for admission until August.

From ABC school to inter college

Aminabad Inter College traces its roots back to October 10, 1887, when it was established as the Aminabad Municipal ABC School. The institution was upgraded to an Intermediate College in 1947 and is affiliated with the Uttar Pradesh Board.

Spread across nearly one lakh square feet, the campus houses 68 rooms, of which 34 are used as classrooms. The institution also has 10 laboratories that support practical learning across various subjects.

Strong academic record

According to Principal Sahab Lal Mishra, the college consistently records a pass percentage of over 95 percent in board examinations. The decision to open admissions for girls marks a major step toward broadening educational opportunities while maintaining the institution’s academic standards.

The college currently has 46 teachers and four vocational guest faculty members. Among them are 15 women teachers, providing a supportive environment for newly admitted girl students.

Modern facilities beyond the classroom

The campus is equipped with 128 CCTV cameras to ensure safety and monitor both classrooms and common areas. Students also have access to smart classrooms and smart boards designed to enhance digital learning.

Beyond academics, the institution offers facilities for cricket, basketball, badminton, table tennis and chess. A gymnasium is also available on campus, while trained instructors conduct daily yoga sessions for students.

To encourage holistic development, the college provides library and reading room facilities and regularly organizes science model workshops. Students are also given newspapers free of cost every day, helping them stay informed about current affairs and develop a broader understanding of social, political and scientific issues.

Admissions open till August

With admissions currently in progress, eligible students can apply for the remaining seats until August. The inclusion of girls marks a defining chapter in the institution’s long history and reflects a growing emphasis on equal educational opportunities in the city’s public education system.
