Students aspiring to build careers in both business and law will soon have a new option at Lucknow University. The university is set to introduce a five-year integrated BBA LL.B. programme from the academic session 2026-27 after receiving approval from the Bar Council of India (BCI).

The approval, granted by the BCI Standing Committee, allows the university to admit 180 students in the new programme, with three sections of 60 seats each. The addition of the course is expected to strengthen the university’s professional education portfolio and cater to the growing demand for lawyers with business and management expertise. 

Lucknow University claims to have become the first state university in Uttar Pradesh to offer the programme directly from its main campus.

Major expansion for legal education

The launch of the BBA LL.B. programme marks a significant development for the university’s Faculty of Law, which has traditionally offered legal education through conventional law programmes. The integrated course will combine legal studies with business administration, preparing students for careers in the corporate sector as well as the legal profession.

Blending law with business studies

The five-year curriculum will expose students to subjects ranging from financial accounting, marketing and organisational management to constitutional law, corporate law, commercial regulations and international legal systems.

The multidisciplinary structure aims to provide a broader understanding of how legal frameworks interact with modern businesses and corporate institutions.

Practical training to be a key component

Beyond classroom learning, the programme will focus on skill development through moot court sessions, legal drafting, legal writing exercises, case studies and mandatory internships with law firms and corporate organisations.

The course is also expected to help students develop research aptitude, analytical thinking, negotiation skills and practical problem-solving abilities.

Career pathways across legal and corporate sectors

Graduates of the programme will be able to explore opportunities in corporate law firms, multinational companies, banks, financial institutions, insurance companies and compliance divisions of businesses.

Potential career options include legal associate, corporate legal advisor, compliance officer, legal manager and in-house counsel. Students will also be eligible to pursue litigation and appear for judicial service examinations in accordance with existing eligibility norms.
