The ongoing indefinite protest by students at Lucknow University against the recent fee hike, alleged neglect of student welfare, and the expulsion of three student leaders received fresh support on Monday from former mayoral candidate Vandana Mishra and retired Prof. Dr. Ramesh Dixit.

The protest, which has entered its 28th day, continues to draw attention from members of civil society and the academic community. During their visit to the protest site, Mishra and Dr. Dixit interacted with the agitating students and expressed solidarity with their demands.

They urged the university administration to adopt a constructive approach by initiating dialogue with the protesting students instead of relying on disciplinary measures. The two also called for the withdrawal of the expulsion orders issued against the three student leaders and sought a review of the recent fee hike, describing it as a matter that directly impacts students.

Addressing those present at the protest site, they stressed that universities should remain spaces for academic debate, democratic participation, and open discussion. According to them, resolving disputes through communication is essential to maintaining a healthy educational environment.

The protest has been underway for nearly a month, with students demanding the rollback of the fee hike, restoration of the expelled student leaders, and greater consideration of student concerns in university decision making. As the agitation continues, pressure is mounting on the university administration to engage with the protesters and find a mutually acceptable resolution.
