Lucknow University has recorded its highest ever international admissions interest, receiving 3,421 applications from 77 countries for the 2026–27 academic session. The figure marks a 64% increase over last years 2,083 applications, underlining the universitys expanding global footprint.

Among all countries, Bangladesh emerged as the largest contributor with 1,425 applications, followed by Nepal, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania. The university also received applications from European nations, including one from Germany and two from Poland, highlighting its widening international reach.

UG programmes lead demand

The university received 1,338 more international applications than in the previous admission cycle, indicating growing confidence among overseas students in its academic offerings and affordable education.

The rise is being seen as a reflection of Lucknow Universitys increasing visibility in South Asia, Africa and other regions, supported by its focus on academic quality, student support and international engagement.

Most international applicants have opted for undergraduate programmes, which attracted 2,552 applications. Postgraduate courses received 595 applications, while 274 students applied for PhD programmes, indicating a steady rise in interest in research and advanced studies at the university.

Highlights global recognition

Vice Chancellor Prof. JP Saini said the record growth in international applications reflects the universitys academic excellence, career oriented programmes and student friendly environment. The universitys International Cell has started scrutinising applications and initiating the admission process.
