The International Research Institute of Buddhist Studies, Lucknow, has expanded its academic offerings by introducing postgraduate (MA) programmes from the 2026–27 academic session. The new courses have received approval from Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, allowing students to continue their higher education at the institute without having to seek admission elsewhere.

Admissions are currently open for both undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA) programmes, with the application window remaining open until July 15.

The newly introduced MA programmes will be offered in Pali, Buddhist Studies, and Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology. Each postgraduate course will have an intake of 10 students, taking the total MA seats to 30.

The institute will also admit students to its BA programme in the same three disciplines, with a combined intake of 60 seats.

The International Buddhist Research Institute has been actively engaged in preserving the legacy of Lord Buddha and promoting Buddhist heritage and culture across Uttar Pradesh. Alongside organising research, cultural, and academic activities, the institute also conducts specialised courses related to Buddhist history and culture at its Gomti Nagar campus.

According to Executive Chairman Hargovind Kushwaha, the decision to introduce MA programmes was taken after recognising that students completing their bachelor degree at the institute had to move to other universities for postgraduate education. The new courses aim to provide a seamless academic pathway for students while strengthening higher education and research in Buddhist and ancient Indian studies.
