BBAU launches MSc in interior and space design from 2026–27, opens new career pathways in design industry

Two year postgraduate programme will offer hands on training, digital design exposure and industry focused learning with an intake of 40 students.

Expanding its academic offerings to meet the evolving needs of the design industry, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) has introduced a two year Master of Science (MSc) in Interior and Space Design, beginning with the 2026–27 academic session.
The programme, to be offered under the Department of Family Resource Management, School of Home Science, will admit 40 students in its first batch. The semester fee has been fixed at Rs 20,000.
Designed with a strong industry orientation, the course will cover a wide spectrum of subjects, including interior and spatial planning, furniture and lighting design, sustainable design practices, colour theory, building materials and digital design applications. Students will also undergo project based practical training to gain real world experience alongside classroom learning.
According to the university, the programme has been introduced in response to the increasing demand for skilled professionals capable of designing functional and aesthetically appealing residential, commercial and institutional spaces. The curriculum aims to blend creative thinking with technical knowledge, enabling graduates to adapt to the changing requirements of the design sector.
Students completing the course will have opportunities to build careers in areas such as interior design, space planning, design consultancy, visual merchandising, furniture design, set design and project management. The programme also seeks to encourage entrepreneurial ventures in the growing interior and space design market.
Prof. Shalini Agrawal, Head of the Department of Family Resource Management, said the newly launched course has been structured to provide students with a balance of creativity, technical expertise and practical exposure, helping them prepare for professional opportunities in the rapidly expanding design industry.
