Lucknow University has rolled out a revised fee structure for the 2026–27 academic session, bringing significant changes for undergraduate students across the university and its affiliated colleges. While students seeking admission to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme will have to pay more than before, those enrolling in Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) courses will see a marginal reduction in their first-semester fees.

The revised fee structure, approved by the university Finance Committee and Executive Council, also introduces several new fee components that will now be collected from students in affiliated colleges. The move has drawn objections from aided colleges, which have opposed the addition of these new charges.

BA first semester fee increased

Under the revised structure, the total amount payable by BA first semester students has been increased from Rs 1,750 to Rs 2,000 per student. Earlier, students were required to pay Rs 1,250 as examination fee and Rs 500 as enrolment fee. The revised structure now includes multiple fee heads such as semester registration, sports, marksheet, Rover Rangers, practical, processing and annual alumni fees, along with the existing enrolment fee. Students admitted to the second semester of BA will now have to pay Rs 1,400.

BSc and BCom students get fee reduction

In contrast, the university has reduced the first semester fee for BSc and BCom programmes by Rs 150. Previously, students paid Rs 2,250, whereas under the new structure they will now pay Rs 2,100. The revised amount includes charges for semester registration, examination, sports, marksheet, Rover Rangers, practical work, processing, annual alumni fee and enrolment.

New fee heads introduced across colleges

For the first time, Lucknow University has implemented several new fee categories for students studying in affiliated colleges. These include:

• Semester Registration Fee

• Sports Fee

• Marksheet Fee

• Rover Rangers Fee

• Practical Fee

• Processing Fee

• Annual Alumni Fee

The university had constituted a seven member committee under the chairmanship of Professor Ram Milan from the Department of Commerce to recommend a uniform fee structure for the university and its affiliated colleges. Based on the committee report, the revised structure was approved by the Finance Committee and the Executive Council before being officially notified by Registrar Dr Bhawana Mishra.

Professional and self financed courses also costlier

Apart from undergraduate programmes, the university has also revised fees for several regular and self financed courses. The five year integrated LLB programme has witnessed one of the steepest revisions, with the fee increasing from Rs 25,500 to Rs 46,830.

Similarly, the fee for the self financed MCom programme has also been revised upward. In addition, students opting for the Minor Degree Programme proposed by the Faculty of Arts will have to pay an additional Rs 1,000 registration fee.

Aided colleges raise objections

The introduction of new fee components has sparked resistance from aided colleges, which have objected to collecting the newly introduced charges from students. The issue is expected to be discussed further between college managements and the university administration.

Meanwhile, the university has maintained that the fee revision was approved months ago after due process. University spokesperson Professor Mukul Srivastava said the proposal for revising the fee structure had already been cleared by the Executive Council in April, and the details were subsequently uploaded on the university official website.
