A dramatic incident unfolded during the LLM entrance examination at Lucknow University on Monday when an aspirant, allegedly caught using a mobile phone to cheat, escaped from the examination centre by breaking a classroom window.

According to university officials, the candidate, identified as Jatin Varshney, a resident of Aligarh, was appearing for the entrance test at the university Jankipuram campus. Members of the internal flying squad reportedly detected suspicious activity during routine monitoring and found him in possession of a mobile phone, allegedly being used to access unauthorized material.

Officials said the candidate became agitated after being confronted and was shifted to a separate room for further inquiry. However, before disciplinary action could be completed, he allegedly broke a window and fled the premises, creating a brief commotion inside the examination centre.

The examination centre superintendent later lodged a complaint at Jankipuram police station. The university has also cancelled the candidate application and initiated disciplinary proceedings in accordance with examination rules.

The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny over security arrangements during the university ongoing entrance examinations. Despite claims of strict frisking and surveillance, multiple candidates have reportedly been caught with prohibited electronic devices, including mobile phones and smart glasses, over the past two days.

The repeated recovery of electronic gadgets from candidates has raised fresh concerns about the effectiveness of security checks at examination centres and the challenges authorities face in preventing the use of technology for unfair means during competitive examinations.

Police are investigating the matter based on the complaint filed by the university, while officials are expected to review existing security protocols to prevent similar incidents in future.
