BBAU to hold 11th convocation on August 29, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to confer degrees and gold medals

Over 8,300 graduates from four academic years are eligible, while the university gears up for one of its largest convocation ceremonies with extensive preparations underway.

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, is set to celebrate a major academic milestone as it hosts its 11th Convocation Ceremony on August 29, 2026. The event will bring together graduating students, faculty members, researchers and distinguished guests, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attending as the Chief Guest to award degrees and honour outstanding achievers with gold medals.
The upcoming convocation will recognize students who completed their academic programmes during 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, making it one of the universitys largest degree-conferring ceremonies in recent years. Around 8,300 students from undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes are eligible to receive their degrees.
According to the university, nearly 4,100 students have already registered to participate in the ceremony. The online registration portal will remain open until August 16, giving eligible graduates another opportunity to confirm their participation. The final number of attendees is expected to increase as registrations continue.
The convocation will also mark a significant achievement for the universitys research community, with nearly 390 scholars set to receive their PhD degrees. In addition, around 220 students will be awarded degrees under the Multiple Exit framework introduced as part of higher education reforms.
Academic excellence will be a key highlight of the ceremony. Approximately 450 meritorious students will be honoured with gold medals, while four outstanding students will receive the prestigious R.D. Sonkar Award in recognition of their exceptional academic performance and overall achievements.
Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal said a convocation represents far more than the completion of an academic programme. It is a moment when graduates prepare to shoulder greater responsibilities towards society and the nation. He expressed confidence that BBAU students, equipped with knowledge, innovation, ethical values and social commitment, would make meaningful contributions to the vision of a developed India.
Prof. Mittal also emphasized that the university remains committed to nurturing not only academically competent graduates but also responsible and compassionate citizens capable of making an impact at the global level. He extended his congratulations in advance to all degree recipients and award winners, acknowledging the collective support of parents, teachers and the university community in their success.
Meanwhile, Controller of Examinations Prof. Vikram Singh Yadav said the university has initiated comprehensive preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Multiple committees have been constituted to oversee security arrangements, guest hospitality, student registration, stage management, transportation and other logistical aspects, with the aim of delivering a well-organised and dignified convocation ceremony.
