The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has launched a six-month online certificate programme, Advanced Data Science and Machine Learning for Business Analytics, aimed at working professionals looking to build industry-relevant skills in artificial intelligence (AI), data science and business analytics without taking a break from their careers.

The programme, which will commence on October 3, 2026, will be conducted entirely online, allowing participants to attend live classes alongside their professional commitments. Designed by the Department of Management Sciences (DoMS), IIT Kanpur, the programme will focus on the practical application of data-driven technologies in business and decision-making.

Focus on in-demand AI and data skills

The curriculum covers several emerging and industry-relevant areas, including Python, R Programming, Data Analysis, Data Visualization, Machine Learning, Generative AI and Business Analytics. The programme is structured to provide practical exposure to tools and concepts that professionals can apply in real-world business scenarios.

Participants will attend a total of 60 hours of live weekend classes, making the programme particularly suitable for professionals who want to upskill while continuing their full-time jobs.

The academic component will also benefit from the expertise of experienced faculty from IITs and IIMs, providing participants with exposure to established academic and industry-oriented perspectives in data science and analytics.

Early exit option after three months

The programme also offers flexibility for participants who may not be able to complete the full six-month duration. An exit option after three months is available, under which eligible participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates with a graduation degree from a recognised university and at least 55 per cent marks are eligible to apply.

Working professionals with three or more years of work experience can also apply with a minimum of 40 per cent marks in graduation, according to the eligibility criteria for the programme.

Fee structure and application

The application fee is ₹1,000 plus GST, while the programme fee has been set at ₹85,000 plus GST. Participants also have the option of paying the programme fee in two instalments.
