GATE 2027 registration date revised: applications to open on August 27, exam in February

IIT Madras has revised the GATE 2027 application timeline, giving aspirants additional time to prepare before the registration window opens through the GOAPS portal.

The registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will not begin on August 14 as scheduled earlier. The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), which is conducting GATE 2027, has revised the application calendar. According to the updated schedule, the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) will open on August 27, 2026.
Candidates will be able to submit their applications during the regular registration window until September 27, 2026. An extended application window will also be available, with the revised deadline set for October 5, 2026.

GATE 2027 will be conducted in February 2027, with the examination spread across three weekends. The first set of papers is scheduled for February 6 and 7, followed by examinations on February 13 and 14 and February 20 and 21.
The admit card release date has not yet been announced. Candidates should regularly check the official GATE portal for updates regarding the examination schedule, admit card and other important instructions.
Documents to keep ready before applying
Aspirants are advised to complete their preparations before the application window opens. Depending on their eligibility and category, candidates may need to keep the following information and documents ready:
• A valid photo identity document such as Aadhaar, Virtual ID or another accepted ID
• Recent passport-size photograph
• Signature
• SC/ST certificate, wherever applicable
• PwD/UDID certificate, wherever applicable
• Dyslexia certificate, if applicable
• Academic details related to the qualifying degree and institute
• Date of birth and parent/guardian details
• Complete communication address with PIN code
• Preferred GATE paper and examination city choices

DigiLocker required for indian applicants
Indian candidates appearing for GATE 2027 will be required to use DigiLocker as part of the registration process. Applicants should therefore have a verified DigiLocker account ready and ensure that their details are updated before beginning the application.
Where can GATE scores be used?
A valid GATE score can be used for admission to postgraduate programmes such as MTech, ME and MS, as well as certain doctoral programmes offered by IITs, NITs, IIITs and other participating institutes. GATE scores may also be considered by several public sector organisations for recruitment, subject to their individual eligibility criteria and recruitment policies.
With the registration window now starting on August 27, candidates have additional time to organise their documents and review the eligibility and application requirements.
