UPSC has opened applications for Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner posts in EPFO from August 22; graduates can apply, with recruitment through a written test and interview.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced recruitment for 80 Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC) posts in the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The recruitment offers a Group A, non-ministerial position at Level 10, making it a significant opportunity for candidates seeking a permanent government job.

The online application process began on August 22, 2026, and eligible candidates can apply through the UPSCs online application portal. Candidates will be required to complete the application process in the prescribed stages before the deadline mentioned in the official notification.

Who can apply?

Candidates holding a Bachelors degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification are eligible to apply for the APFC post.

A diploma in Company Law, Labour Law or Public Administration has been listed as a desirable qualification. However, candidates are not required to have specific prior work experience for the post.

Age limit and relaxation

The upper age limit varies according to the candidates category:

General/EWS: Up to 35 years

OBC: Up to 38 years

SC/ST: Up to 40 years

PwBD: Up to 10 years of age relaxation, subject to the applicable rules

The maximum permissible age, including applicable relaxations, is 56 years.

What does an APFC officer do?

An Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner is responsible for a range of administrative, financial and regulatory functions within EPFO. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with provident fund regulations and recovering outstanding dues.

The role also involves conducting inquiries, settling claims, maintaining cash books and reconciling bank-related records. APFC officers may additionally handle pension-related matters, office administration, legal cases and MIS returns.

The appointment includes a one-year probation period. After successful completion of the probation and fulfillment of applicable conditions, the position offers permanent government service. Candidates may be posted or transferred to locations anywhere in India.

Selection process

The selection process will consist of a Recruitment Test (RT) followed by an interview. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their performance in the written test will be called for the interview stage, followed by document verification.

The Recruitment Test will be of two hours and will consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions. The question paper will be available in English and Hindi, with the exception of the General English component. There will be negative marking of one-third of the marks assigned to a question for an incorrect answer.

The written test will carry 300 marks, while the interview will carry 100 marks.

Application fee

The application fee has been fixed at ₹25 for candidates who are required to pay it. SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempted from the application fee.

The fee, once paid, will not be refunded under any circumstances.
