Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, is set to host its 11th Convocation Ceremony-2026 on August 29, with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh scheduled to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The university on Wednesday held a press conference to brief the media about the preparations, degree distribution, student arrangements and other key programmes planned for the ceremony.

The press conference was chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. Dean, Academic Affairs Prof. S. Victor Babu, Registrar Dr. Ashwini Kumar Singh, Controller of Examinations Prof. Vikram Singh Yadav and Public Relations Officer Prof. Rachana Gangwar were also present.

According to the university, a total of 8,551 students, including backlog candidates, will be awarded degrees during the 11th Convocation. The recipients comprise 4,832 male and 3,719 female students from the academic years 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Year-wise, degrees will be conferred upon 2,139 students from 2023, 2,115 from 2024, 2,237 from 2025 and 2,041 from 2026, besides 19 backlog candidates.

PG students form the largest group of degree recipients

Programme-wise, the degree recipients include 2,771 undergraduate students, 228 UG students under the Multiple Entry and Exit system, 4,662 postgraduate students, 412 Ph.D. scholars, 142 students from integrated programmes, 23 certificate-course students, 198 diploma students, 102 PG diploma students and 13 M.Phil. students.

Postgraduate programmes account for the largest share of the graduating cohort, with 4,662 students receiving degrees, followed by 2,771 undergraduate students.

22 students to receive honours on main stage

The university will conduct the degree distribution in two phases to accommodate the large number of students.

The first phase will take place from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium. During this session, selected students from prominent categories will be honoured on the main stage.

Controller of Examinations Prof. Vikram Singh Yadav said 22 meritorious students will receive degrees or awards on the main stage. The group includes 17 university toppers/meritorious students from UG and PG programmes, one D.Sc. recipient and four recipients of the R.D. Sonkar Award.

The remaining degree distribution will be conducted from 2 PM onwards in the respective departments of the students.

Rehearsals scheduled on August 27 and 28

To ensure the smooth conduct of the ceremony, BBAU has scheduled rehearsals for participating students.

The first rehearsal will be held on August 27 from 11 AM to 1 PM, followed by the second rehearsal from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium. A full-dress rehearsal has also been scheduled for August 28 from 2 PM to 5 PM at the same venue.

Students participating in the first phase will be required to carry a valid convocation pass issued by the Proctors Office for entry into the auditorium.

BBAU prescribes dress code for convocation

The university has also prescribed a specific dress code to maintain uniformity and the ceremonial dignity of the occasion.

Male students have been asked to wear a cream or whitish-coloured kurta-pajama, while female students are required to wear a cream or whitish-coloured kurti-salwar/churidar or saree.

The administration has urged all participating students to strictly adhere to the prescribed attire.

Angavastram distribution on August 27-28

BBAU will provide angavastram to students participating in the convocation. Distribution will be carried out on August 27 and 28 in two daily slots—11 AM to 1 PM and 3 PM to 6 PM.

Students must first complete the prescribed application form available on the universitys official website before collecting the angavastram. The university has advised students to complete the process in advance and visit the campus only during the designated distribution timings.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal said the convocation represents more than the formal conferment of degrees, describing it as the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of graduating students. He called upon students to use the knowledge, values and discipline gained at the university for the development of society and the nation.

The university administration has said that extensive arrangements are being made to ensure the ceremony is conducted in a smooth, systematic and dignified manner, with particular attention to the convenience of students, parents and guests.
