India Post has launched the July 2026 GDS recruitment drive for 23,757 posts across the country, with online applications open from August 31. Candidates can apply until September 19, while the fee payment window will remain open till September 21.

India Post has opened the application window for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026 under the GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026. A total of 23,757 vacancies are available across various postal circles in states and Union Territories.

The online application process has commenced on August 31, 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their forms through the official GDS recruitment portal. The last date to complete the application is September 19, 2026, while candidates who are required to make a fee payment can do so up to September 21, 2026.

Who can apply?

The recruitment is open to candidates who have passed Class 10 from a recognised board. Applicants are required to have studied Mathematics and English as subjects at the Class 10 level.

The prescribed age limit is 18 to 40 years. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit as per applicable government rules.

Selection without written examination

One of the key features of the GDS recruitment is that candidates are not required to appear for a written examination or interview.

Selection will be based on a merit list prepared using candidates Class 10 marks. Shortlisted applicants will subsequently have to undergo the required document verification process before final engagement.

Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu among major vacancy circles

The vacancy distribution shows a sizeable number of openings in several major postal circles. Maharashtra accounts for 2,431 posts across the two listed language categories, while Tamil Nadu has 2,118 vacancies.

Other circles with a high number of vacancies include Uttar Pradesh (1,691), West Bengal (1,762 across the listed categories), Madhya Pradesh (1,450), Jharkhand (1,379), Kerala (1,373) and Odisha (1,353).

Bihar has 1,098 vacancies, while Karnataka has 1,116 posts. Rajasthan has 1,009 vacancies, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 917 and Chhattisgarh with 762.
