La Martiniere College, Lucknow hosts grand finale as students from across India shine in debate and quiz competition

Lucknow witnessed an evening of sharp intellect, spirited arguments and competitive brilliance as the final day of the 9th edition of the Farida Abraham Memorial Debate & Quiz (FAMDQ) concluded at La Martiniere College Lucknow on May 18 with an impressive display of talent from schools across the country.

The event’s chief guest for the evening was Bhupendra Chaubey, a senior journalist known for his extensive work in prime-time debates, interviews and election coverage with NDTV and CNN-News18.

The quiz finale featured eight top-performing teams from schools including La Martiniere Girls’ College, Sunbeam Varuna, La Martiniere College, The Bishop’s Co-Ed School (Undri, Pune), Wynberg Allen, Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Sunbeam Lahartara and Calcutta Boys’ School. The finalists competed in an intense contest that tested their knowledge, speed and analytical thinking.

Sunbeam Lahartara emerged as the winner of the quiz competition with a standout performance in the final round. Karma Tsewanj Dorje was awarded the title of Most Promising Quizzer for an impressive display of consistency and knowledge throughout the competition.

The debate finale added another layer of excitement to the evening as participants argued on the motion, “This House believes that Democracy counts Heads not Minds — and that is its Greatest Betrayal.” The session witnessed powerful arguments, confident rebuttals and thought-provoking perspectives from the competing teams.

Wangtshen Gyalpo Bhutiya of St. Joseph’s School, North Point, Darjeeling, won both the Best Speaker and Overall Best Speaker awards. His team also emerged victorious in the debate segment of the ninth edition of FAMDQ.

Adrish Hossain secured the title of Overall Most Promising Speaker, earning praise for his articulate arguments and stage presence.

The event concluded on a high note, celebrating academic excellence, critical thinking and the spirit of healthy competition among young minds from across the country.
